Special Interests

Pakistan has inherited an extensive railway network spanning thousands of kilometers, featuring broad, meter, and narrow-gauge tracks established during British colonial rule. Originating from the strategic needs of the Great Game, a Cold War rivalry with Russia, the British constructed railway tracks through the Khyber Pass and Bolan Pass, showcasing the pinnacle of nineteenth-century railway engineering.

A remarkable aspect is the continued operation of steam-powered trains. The Khyber line, with its 1:25 gradient and unique reversing stations, stands as a marvel. With fifty to sixty-year-old British and Canadian steam locomotives stationed at five different sheds across diverse terrains—mountains, plains, and deserts—VISTA offers specialized photographic tours for steam enthusiasts.

Additionally, we present rail-based sightseeing tours featuring sleeping coaches and dining cars that traverse the length of Pakistan. This distinctive venture is a specialty of VISTA, making us the sole operator in Pakistan to provide such a unique and memorable experience.

Art and Craft

In Pakistan, our historical roots trace back to 4000 BC, marked by the inception of wheel-thrown pottery in Meher Garh—an art pioneered 1500 years before the Persians. The Indus Valley, contemporary to Egypt and Mesopotamia, served as the cradle of arts and crafts. Pakistani craftsmen showcase their mastery in stone, wood, clay, metal, and various techniques such as blockwork, lacquer work, glazed work, appliqué, carpets, and architectural designs.

VISTA organizes special itineraries, providing opportunities to witness these age-old crafts that persist and compete with modern machines. Pakistan experiences four distinct seasons and abundant sunshine, allowing for tailored programs, including visits to art galleries or engaging in cultural activities. Artists interested in painting landscapes can find specially arranged programs that cater to their creative pursuits.
